Ignite your inner warrior

Are you ready to invite and ignite your inner warrior? Based upon ancient warrior training, maces and clubs are here to revolutionise the way you train. You’ll no longer be tied to fixed movement patterns, you’ll learn to how to create freedom in movement.

All ranges of motion

Nowadays, a lot of the strength training is based upon linear movement patterns completely neglecting the rotational aspect of movement. Maces and clubs are rotational tools which exercises require the entire body to be effectively activated during the movements. You’ll build strength in all ranges of motion, with a specific focus on shoulders and arms.

Yin & Yang

All though the tools look like very masculine tools to wield, it actually requires softening to be most effective. Timing, coordination, balance, and spatial awareness are required to master the mace and its weight. Don’t be fooled, a 4kg mace and a set of 1kg light clubs will humble the strongest among us and will reveal weaknesses in your kinetic chain.

Workshops

At Dutch Flow Academy we offer multiple events ranging from workshops to certifications. The workshops focus on specific topics that can vary per categorie of tool, in duration, and in difficultly. During the workshops you’ll learn about the Dutch Flow Method. This is a unique approach that will teach you how to approach swinging movements and tools with a solid foundation. It's the first method in the world connecting all the swinging arts together. Having understood the mechanics mentally and physically we will move forward to teaching you the fundamental swings and movements. Mastering one swing will translate into all the other swings that follow.

Certifications

The certifications are set up as all inclusive retreats with a fixed schedule that includes tests and challenges. You'll receive a comprehensive manual, and method and it includes pre-learning through online courses. If you're dedicated, this is your best choice. For now we offer a level 1 and level 2 certification program for the Mace & Gada connecting both the Mace Flow and Mace/Gada categories. A clubs certification wil follow in the future.

"Flow is being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz."

What to expect

- Connect to your body in a deeper way - Learn how to swing the mace - Gain strength in unfamiliar places - Find flow and freedom in movement - Improve mobility and coordination - Feel like a warrior

Harbert Egberts

Guide

Harberts life changed dramatically when he reached the age of 21. After a tough breakup he was forced to look deeply at himself for the first time. This altered his state of consciousness as he now shifted from a mindset of scarcity and victimhood to an empowered human being that was able to transform himself through action and discipline. He decided to not pursue his laid out university career and follow his passion instead: personal development, fitness and philosophy. This led him to start Dutch Flow Academy in 2017 and teach people how to move and use unconventional tools. Around that time he discovered the mace and started to train and coach with it. Soon enough he traveled to India and the USA to learn more about this amazing tool and its history. This propelled him on a journey of teaching workshops all around the world, creating online courses, go to India five more times, and now teach the certification of Dutch Flow Academy. He's now a well known and respected coach in the swinging arts. The journey is still unfolding and he can't wait to have you on board and help spread the art of the mace.

Coming from a perspective of a Steel Mace Flow Educator, there's a whole other perspective of how to flow with a steel mace. You get to add on to the way that you experience moving through space and time with it. He offers different ways to think of rotational force and using hand transitions to move with it, and against it; Additional ideas to pivot and change direction; A different way to chase circles. It helped my practice tremendously. Besides that, he's just awesome to be around as a human.

I had become acquainted with Indian Clubs and the Mace through social media. I enjoyed it so much that I looked for an instructor, because I couldn't figure it out using videos alone. That's when I ended up at Harbert's. Because I couldn't wait for the workshop, I took the online course first. And then the life workshop. Harbert teaches very nicely and clearly. He managed to get my confused head to send the right signals to my arms and legs. I am completely happy and will definitely continue with this fun sport, with Harbert.

Great experience. My training previous to the workshop was limited to heavy maces and clubs. The light club work surprised me with the increased mobility gained during the short practice and the guidance toward light mace flow has introduced me to another method of implementation for one of my favorite tools. Fully intend on continuing the light club and mace flow journey.

I attended the mace and clubs workshop in Toronto. I really enjoyed it. As a beginner I found it easy to follow. Both Harbert and Santi gave really clear direction and took their time going around helping everyone practice their swings. Really great experience. Highly recommend it.

Attended a workshop in Amsterdam - in just three hours, understanding, practical application and Harbert's unique approach to the mace was excellently taught. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an introduction swinging a mace. Would I recommend this? Definitely!
