The Flowing Dutchman is coming back to Sydney for a mace workshop! On Sunday the 8th of December from 09:00-13:00 Harbert will teach a mace workshop in Maroubra at FitzFitness.

About

In this workshop we’ll dive deep into what a mace is, and how you can use it as effectively and safely as possible in your training. You’re going to learn a comprehensive system, the Dutch Flow Method, to help you understand the mace in a complete sense. We’ll dive deep into fundamental swings and exercises and will apply the foundations to them. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and be corrected in your technique. After this workshop you’ll be competent in the basics of the mace, and will have a good idea of how to progress and use the system for that.

The mace has so much potential as a movement tool. It’s like a combination between strength training and martial arts. The strength training part means that we’re swinging relatively heavy weights around and this has tremendous benefit for the shoulder and surrounding muscles. The mace also prioritises rotational movements from the hips and the spine that carry over to almost every sports and movement based activities.

Using the mace as martial arts training translates itself into the mace as an ancient weapon. The mace simulates throwing or swinging movements that are commonly done with weapons. The flow aspect of the mace means that transitioning from one movement to the other will be important when using it. Think of it like kata’s in martial arts, where you create certain patterns to develop your ability to correctly swing in almost every position. This allows the mind to be active too, and is therefore amazing for coordination, spatial awareness, creating new neural pathways, and much more.

We, as Dutch Flow Academy, are proud to host the Level 2 Mace Certification for the first time in Belgium. If you enjoyed the level 1 course, you will be blown away by the contents and experiences of level 2.

Goal

Level 2 is designed for those who want to step up their game as an instructor and are willing to dive deeper within themselves to be able to have a bigger impact on their students. As a main theme, you’ll be guided in the art of teaching single arm mace techniques. This will help you as an instructor with a system for your more advanced students who are willing to continue and uplift their mace practice. In level 2 you will go through a detailed process to learn how to teach and organise a workshop. We will pay a lot more attention on the mastery of coaching and discuss multiple teaching methodologies for you to become a more well rounded instructor. This will involve diving deeper into yourself through self exploratory exercises. Furthermore level 2 will be a place where experienced instructors come together to learn from each other and to create a powerful community of instructors who will keep spreading the art the mace.
