Heavy clubs

Heavy Clubs Courses

Heavy Clubs is a practice that has its main foundation in the Persian Meel tradition from modern day Iran. In this tradition one the seven pillars of strength is the Meel and this involves swinging two relatively heavy clubs. Compared to light clubs the technique involves more back activation and less shoulder activation since the elbows are kept in a 90 degree angle. Compared to Heavy Club, Heavy Clubs has added complexity because of limb independence. This practice is more difficult to start with since it has both two clubs and weight. The courses work up slowly, but we’d still recommend starting with Heavy Club first. Don’t be mistaken with the weight, it requires tremendous strength and focus to hold two clubs at the same time, let alone swinging them. Recommended starting weight: 3-4kg per club. Usually sold as Persian Meels, Clubbells, Steel Clubs, Karlakattai, or Mudgars.

Benefits

Heavy Clubs combines a lot of attributes from all the categories. It has the stability and strength factor from Heavy Club. The limb independence similar to Light Clubs. Plus the heavy swings in front and behind just like the mace has. This practice works the grip like no other. There will be no lower body movements in this category, however the way you learn how to use your shoulder blades with Heavy Clubs makes this a tool you can’t miss out on. The creativity and variety with heavy weight is unique, and allows for a lot coordination.

Clubs are my second favorite tool for workout after the Gada, I knew some basic moves but this curse is amazing, as always Harbert drives you and teaches you from the basic then you will be able to swing the clubs nicely and properly. One of the best parts is the Dutch Flow Method and the tempo incorporation that made the work out more fun and challenging.

Each Course is beautifully structured to digest piece by piece. Divided and Organized into isolated movements to cultivate skill, freedom of movement, creativity in arranging your own flows, and full Flow sequences rooted in foundational movements from the ground up. And lays a strong foundation for a daily practice and a process-oriented approach.
