On Saturday the 22nd of March 2024 head coach Harbert will teach a four hour workshop on Heavy Club and Heavy Clubs. This is your chance to learn an extensive and unique perspective on heavy clubs from one of the most experienced and knowledgable teachers in the world.
WHAT
For the Heavy Club part we’ll focus on a single club. This training tool is also known as a clubbell, mugdar, bulava, or a short gada. Training with a Heavy Club is an ancient holistic movement practice that works the entire body. The approach you’ll learn is based upon different modern and ancient methods combining it together with the Dutch Flow Method. You’ll learn the most important exercises and concepts to understand how to use the tool effectively. A heavy Club will strengthen your arms and shoulders, increase stability, and mobility to make them bulletproof. Compared to Heavy Clubs there’s an emphasis on the lower body too. How to connect the upper body with the lower body in the most effective way. After this workshop you’ll be competent in the basics of the Heavy Club, and will have a good idea of how to progress and use the system for that.
In the second part of the workshop we’ll increase the complexity by swinging two clubs instead of one. Again, this practice goes back thousands of years and has its origin in areas like Iran and India. The Persian Meel practice has been a big influence in the way we teach this swing category. Working two limbs at the same time is a challenge, but because you’ll already have learned the basics of swinging a single club, you will be able to integrate this skill quickly. With Heavy Clubs there’s less of a focus on the lower body and more of a focus on static strength that is required from the arms. Learning how to use the left independently from the right is an amazing skill and has been proven to be extremely healthy both physically and mentally. Aside from the weight, you’ll also get a great brain workout during the Heavy Clubs part.
FOR WHOM
This workshop is for both beginners and experienced practitioners. This is because the theory behind the Heavy Club and Heavy Clubs is most important for you to understand how swings move from one to the other and how you can create your own style of swinging. Both parts start from the beginning and you’ll be able to follow along easily. Furthermore there is a variety of clubs and gada’s/maces available on the day of the workshop.
COACH
Harbert has been coaching groups and clients for over 8 years with clubs. He went to India seven times to discover the history of the mace and wooden clubs. He was also taught by the worlds best club and mace teachers and has been spreading the word all over the world.
